Key takeaways
UK Shopify partners fall into four types, from theme installers to Shopify Plus agencies.
Most independent brands get the best value from a boutique Shopify studio.
Always ask how a migration will protect your Google rankings.
WebKatie builds Shopify stores from £3,500 with a fixed written quote.
"Best Shopify agency" lists rank by size and awards. That doesn't tell you who is right for a brand selling 40 products from a studio in Berkshire. This guide sorts UK Shopify partners into four types, gives honest 2026 cost bands and shows where my studio fits.
Quick answer: most UK product brands under about £2m turnover get the best value from a boutique Shopify studio. You work directly with the person designing and building the store, and budgets usually start in the low thousands rather than the tens of thousands.
The four types of UK Shopify partner
1. Shopify Plus agencies
- Right for: high-volume brands, international storefronts, complex ERP and warehouse integrations
- Watch out for: retainers and account-management layers you may not need
- Typical budget: £30k – £150k+
2. Mid-sized ecommerce agencies
- Right for: growing brands that need design, development and paid marketing under one roof
- Watch out for: juniors doing the build after a senior pitch
- Typical budget: £10k – £40k
3. Boutique Shopify studios
- Right for: independent brands, founders and makers who want a considered, image-led store
- Watch out for: limited capacity, so book ahead
- Typical budget: £3k – £15k
4. Theme installers and marketplace freelancers
- Right for: very small catalogues on a tight budget
- Watch out for: unedited themes, no migration plan, no support after launch
- Typical budget: £300 – £2k
What a UK Shopify store really costs in 2026
| Build | Boutique studio | Mid-sized agency | Plus agency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch store on a customised theme | £3.5k – £6k | £8k – £15k | £25k+ |
| Custom theme, larger catalogue | £6k – £12k | £15k – £35k | £40k+ |
| Migration from Wix, Squarespace or WooCommerce | £2k – £6k | £5k – £15k | £15k+ |
These are typical market ranges, not quotes. Your price depends on catalogue size, integrations and how much content needs creating.
Red flags when choosing a Shopify agency
- No live stores you can open and test on your phone
- No plan for redirecting old product URLs during a migration (this is how stores lose their Google rankings)
- A long list of paid apps added "as standard"
- No clear answer on who owns the theme code
- Prices only "on application"
Questions to ask before you sign
- 1Which live store of yours is most like mine?
- 2Who will actually build it, and will I speak to them directly?
- 3How will you protect my search rankings if I'm moving platform?
- 4What happens in the first month after launch?
Where WebKatie fits
WebKatie is my studio. I'm Katie Knowles, a Shopify Partner based in Windsor, and I design and build every store myself. Nothing is outsourced.
- Shopify stores from £3,500, with a fixed written quote before work starts. See the Shopify service and full pricing.
- Care plans from £70 a month if you want help after launch.
- Real work: current projects include Bäring, an image-led Shopify storefront for everyday and outdoor clothing (in progress). See the portfolio.
- Reviews: 50+ five-star reviews across Google and Bark, with a 5.0 Google rating.
- How it starts: a free 30-minute call, then a written scope and fixed quote.
If you need Shopify Plus with a large ERP integration, I'll tell you honestly and point you towards a bigger team.
My honest recommendation
Choose the agency type that matches your size first, then shortlist three studios and open their live stores. If you'd like a second opinion on a quote, get in touch.
