Platform choice
Web-only is the cheapest and fastest starting point. Design requirements

How long does an MVP take?
Most MVPs take 8 to 20 weeks from kick-off to launch. Timelines move based on how stable the scope is, how quickly you give feedback and approvals, whether design runs in parallel, and team size.
Be wary of anything promising a real MVP in under 4 weeks unless the scope is genuinely tiny. Compressed timelines usually mean corners cut on testing, security or UX — the expensive kind of saving.
What should an MVP include?

- Buy proven building blocks. Don't custom-build auth, payments or email delivery. Stripe, managed auth and transactional email providers exist for a reason.
- Start web-only. A responsive web app reaches everyone and costs far less than two native apps.
- Invest in design first. Changing a Figma file is minutes; changing built software is days.
- Validate before you build. A landing page, waitlist and ten customer interviews can answer your biggest question for a few hundred pounds.
- Use a no-code layer for the boring parts. Internal admin, scheduling or invoicing can often run on tools you already pay for.
A concierge MVP — where you deliver the service manually before automating it — is often the smartest first step. If nobody buys it when you do it by hand, software will not fix that.
Do you actually need an MVP?
Not always. If you are testing demand, a landing page with a waitlist may be enough. If you are testing usability, a prototype may be enough. Build software when you have evidence people want the outcome and the only remaining question is whether they will use your version of it.
