How Much Does a Website Redesign Cost in the UK? (2026 Guide)

    Key takeaways

    • UK website redesigns cost £2,500 for a refresh up to £40,000 for a full rebuild.

    • You pay per template, not per page — reducing templates is the biggest saving.

    • Budget £800–£3,000 for redirect mapping and SEO protection if URLs change.

    • Diagnose speed, content and the enquiry path before committing to a redesign.

Short answer: a UK website redesign costs between £2,500 and £40,000. A visual refresh on an existing platform sits at the low end; a full rebuild with new content, structure and integrations sits at the top.

The harder question is whether you need a redesign at all. Plenty of sites that "look dated" are actually suffering from weak content, slow load times or the wrong pages — all cheaper to fix than a rebuild.

    Refresh, redesign or rebuild?

    TypeWhat changesCostTimeline
    RefreshColours, type, imagery, key page layouts£2,500 – £6,0002 – 4 weeks
RedesignNew design system, new page templates, same platform£6,000 – £18,0004 – 10 weeks
    RebuildNew platform, new structure, new content£15,000 – £40,0008 – 16 weeks
    Enterprise / multi-siteDesign system, CMS, governance, accessibility audit£40,000 – £120,000+16 – 30 weeks

Most UK small businesses need a redesign, not a rebuild. Rebuilds are justified when the platform itself is the constraint — unmaintainable code, no CMS access, or an ecommerce system you have outgrown.

    What drives redesign cost

    Page count and templates

You do not pay per page; you pay per template. Ten pages using three templates is far cheaper than ten bespoke layouts. Auditing which templates you genuinely need is the single biggest lever on price.

    Content

The most underestimated line item. If copy needs rewriting, budget £150 to £400 per page for a professional copywriter, or plan real internal time. Photography adds £500 to £2,000 for a half-day shoot.

    Platform

    PlatformTypical redesign cost
    Wix / Wix Studio£2,500 – £9,000
    Shopify£4,000 – £20,000
    Custom React / headless£12,000 – £40,000

I do not work with WordPress, so those numbers are not here — if that is your current platform, a migration is part of the conversation.

    SEO protection

Non-negotiable on any redesign that changes URLs. A redirect map, metadata migration, structured data and post-launch crawl monitoring add £800 to £3,000 — and cost far less than losing rankings you spent years earning.

    Accessibility

WCAG 2.2 AA conformance work adds roughly 10–20% to a design and build budget. For public sector and enterprise clients it is mandatory, not optional.

    Hidden costs to plan for

    • Content migration — moving existing blog posts, products and case studies properly: £500 to £4,000.
    • Integrations — booking, CRM, payments and email tools all need reconnecting and retesting.
    • Training — an hour or two so your team can actually update the site.
    • Post-launch fixes — hold back 10–15% of budget for the first month after launch.
    • Maintenance — £70 to £300+ per month ongoing. See maintenance plans.

When a redesign is the wrong answer

If your site converts poorly, diagnose before you rebuild:

    1. 1Check speed first. A three-second load is losing you more visitors than the design is.
    2. 2Read your analytics. High bounce on one page is a content problem, not a design problem.
    3. 3Check search intent. Ranking for the wrong terms will not be fixed by new colours.
    4. 4Test the enquiry path. A broken form or a buried phone number is a two-hour fix.
    5. 5Look at trust signals. Real reviews, real photos and clear pricing usually move conversion more than a new hero section.

I have turned down redesigns and fixed a page-speed problem plus three pieces of copy instead. Conversion doubled for under a tenth of the quoted rebuild.

How to keep redesign costs down

    • Reuse a proven structure. Bespoke layouts on every page multiply design and build hours.
    • Have your content ready before design starts. Waiting on copy is the most common cause of budget creep.
    • Phase it. Homepage and top three money pages first, everything else in phase two.
    • Keep your URLs where possible. Fewer redirects, less SEO risk, less cost.
    • Agree fixed scope and fixed price. Open-ended redesigns rarely finish on budget.

    What I charge

I redesign Wix, Wix Studio, Shopify and custom React sites for UK businesses from Windsor. Refreshes start around £2,500; full redesigns typically land between £6,000 and £18,000, fixed-scope and fixed-price with SEO protection built in as standard. See pricing and my web design services. If you are comparing against a completely new product build, my MVP cost guide covers that side.

    Final thoughts

A redesign should have a number attached to it — more enquiries, a higher average order value, less admin. If nobody can say what the new site is meant to do better, the budget is at risk before design starts.
